Greg Storm
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
2009 Individual Award Winner


 

His Senior school year at CHS (1997-98) he qualified for state play in three different sports.  He was a part of the Cross Country team that finished second in the Sectional and qualified for the State Cross Country meet (team 19th). 

During basketball season, he scored 252 points, but the one shot he will be remembered for is the game-tying shot against Mt. Vernon in the Sectional. The Orphans won in OT and went on to play in the Elite Eight at State and had a record of 27-6. He was named first team all-tourney at the Centralia Holiday Tourney in 1996 as the 1996-97 team finished 22-7 and took the South Seven Conference title.

 In the spring (1997), he was part of the 3200 relay team that won the Sectional (8:04.11) and participated in the state track meet. In addition to this, he was individual cross country Sectional champion in 1996 (117th at state). 

In track, he was named Outstanding Underclassman in 1996, Most Valuable and High Point in 1997 and Co-Most Valuable Performer in 1998. He received varsity letters all four years in both cross country and track. The 1998 cross country team captured the South Seven Conference championship. 

Storm received the Career Achievement Award for being a top seven varsity cross country runner all four years of high school. He was named to the all-Southern Illinois Coaches Association cross country team in both 1995 and 1996. In South Seven Conference track, he was a part of the 3200 relay champions in 1997, and was the 800m champ in 1998 (1:57.67). 

He went to Murray State University and was a three year member of the cross country and track teams. Storm was a MSU graduate assistant/assistant coach 2004-2007.
